Microneedling — also called collagen induction therapy — uses the Dermapen®, a professional microneedling device, to create thousands of microscopic channels in the skin. At first glance, this sounds like organised damage. In reality, it is a precise manipulation of the body's most powerful repair mechanism.
The Wound-Healing Cascade
When the needles create micro-channels, the body immediately triggers its wound-healing response in three phases. First, inflammation: platelets rush to the site, releasing growth factors that signal repair cells to activate. Second, proliferation: fibroblasts produce new collagen and elastin — the proteins responsible for firmness and elasticity. Third, remodelling: over weeks and months, this new collagen matures and organises into structured fibres, improving skin texture, scars and fine lines.
Depth Matters Enormously
Needle depth is calibrated to the treatment goal. Superficial depths of 0.25–0.5mm are used for product absorption and general skin quality. Mid-depths of 0.5–1.5mm target fine lines, enlarged pores and mild pigmentation. Deeper settings of 1.5–2.5mm address atrophic acne scars and stretch marks.
At iluexpert, we use the Dermapen® — one of the most trusted professional microneedling devices globally — which allows our specialists to precisely calibrate needle depth for each concern and each area of the face. There is no one-size-fits-all approach: what works for acne scarring on the cheek is different from what works for fine lines around the eyes.
When Do You See Results?
Immediately after treatment, skin looks flushed and plump as inflammation begins. Within a week, texture often feels smoother. But the real results — collagen remodelling — take four to six weeks to become visible per session, and continue improving for up to six months. Most clients require three to six sessions spaced four weeks apart for optimal outcomes.
The improvement is cumulative: each session builds on the last. Clients treating acne scarring typically see the most dramatic results after a full course. Those using microneedling for general skin quality and fine lines often notice meaningful improvement after just two or three sessions.
